Overview
Live Deals is an investment platform connecting qualified investors to exclusive New Zealand investment opportunities - particularly deals that are AIP approved.
Following the replacement of the Migrant Investor Visa with the Active Investor Plus visa in September 2022, multiple requests to access Live Deals were made to the NZTE Investment team by disgruntled advisers for migrant investors.
I led 2 rounds of user testing to evaluate the need and requirements for Live Deals adviser access. Following insight share-backs and close collaboration with stakeholders, I then designed and led developer handover for a new adviser experience - where a balance between essential visibility for users and required privacy by the business was paramount.
Outputs
Project management deliverables:
Running pre-planning and alignment sessions with project lead team and business stakeholders
Co-facilitating scoping and sizing workshops for the product delivery team

6x 45min 1:1 generative user interviews with concept prototype prompts based off initial round of interviews from May, 2023
Planned and executed a 3-month pilot release and testing of Live Deals advisor access to a selected group of 20 immigration and financial advisors. The research included the tracking of pilot product metrics supplemented by 8x 45min 1:1 evaluative user interviews
Insights packs for both rounds of research that were crafted for business stakeholders and the product delivery team
Presentation and share back of insights and design concepts to business stakeholders and Investment leadership team
Design deliverables:
Design exploration, refinement and developer handover of a new, limited adviser access of Live Deals including updates to 4 existing patterns to reflect limited advisor permissions and the addition of a new, deals sharing feature.
Impact
🎯 Advisers are now able to promote investments to migrant investor clients, correlating in a 67% increase of migrant investor users as well as a doubling of unique monthly engagement by migrant investor users on Live Deals (as compared to a 8 month average before and after release).
⭐ Improvement of NZTE’s brand and credibility to key players in the migrant investor ecosystem. From sentiments describing NZTE as “gatekeepers” and “blockers” to post production verbatim from adviser users stating "everything that you've done has improved our interaction with it and our ability to service our clients.”
Project Reflections
Embracing an iterative MVP approach. This project was a classic reminder that oftentimes, stakeholders don’t know what they want until they see it. Empowered by design as a visualisation tool for exploration, this project was a productive application of the iterative MVP approach.
Importance of building trust before proposing solutions. As my first project at NZTE, I had to quickly learn internal stakeholder dynamics. Access to users was limited and internal stakeholder and SME approval held the most influence over product decisions. However, following the execution of this project, the Investment team began to open up to sharing internal processes which gave us precedent for future projects.
